We have a class like that too, if I am not mistaken they use UT2K3 too, You have to be a CSC major to take it though.
The class has already produced some controversy. One of the past groups made a 9-11 Survivor mod that got them some space in the New York Times, radio interviews, etc.
Don’t worry, I know I’m lucky. I’ve been trying to get into this class for 2 years. It’s only open to certain majors and still usually has a waitlist of 50 for 24 seats. I’m graduating in December, so I’m amazed that I finally get to take this as one of the last credits for my major. Whew!
This changes nothing ! You will still be beaten with large blunt objects !

In the fall of 1972 President Nixon announced that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing. This was the first time that a sitting president used the third derivative to advance his case for reelection. - Hugo Rossi, Mathmetician.

billf: Yeah, while the prof loves his games, I've known him and his artwork for several years. He's a very serious artist, and is very much against half-assed work. The point of the class is to make poignant artwork using UT mods as the medium. I’m happy because the he knows the world of gaming and mods as well as anyone, but can still be down for a serious discussion about it. UCSD has a theoretical art department, so they hate it if you just make stuff that looks pretty without having intellectual impact (ie actual content). So deathmatch time will be limited to a half hour for each 3 hour class. >.> They expect you to learn most of the tools on your own and class time is spent on discussing things like the social impact of games or the relationship between games and cinema and other new media products. I think a total of two classes will be actual workshop. It isn’t a class to learn how to model; they expect you to be smart enough to learn the software on your own so they can just teach technique.
CS majors and ICAM (computer art majors) can take this course, but there's a bunch of pre-requisites besides that. The class itself is in the visual arts department.

Want me to make you hate gravity, everyone?
Gravity's web multimedia class requires her to use and learn Unix in the best computer lab on campus.
The teacher says that, if we already know what we're doing (very easy, by the way), we can use the ccomputer for free time.
Unreal Tournament 2003 is on all the computers.
Remember people, that may be Gravity fregging your ass as you scream in pain for mercy!
