From everything I've heard, he couldn't possibly screw things up as much as Gray Davis did. Aside from that, now the late night talk show hosts and every other 2 bit comedian in need of a finisher has something to go to.
SIG TREND OF THE MONTH IS BLANK SIGS BECAUSE I GOT LAZY AND DIDN'T MAKE THE THING AND STUFF.

The thing that started it all was the energy crisis a couple of years ago. Davis panicked at the height of things, and went into secret talks with the energy producers, signing pacts with them that secured prices paid by the state when it buys electricity that are then passed onto consumers when their electric utilities buy the power from the state. He figured he could sign the pacts, and then sue the producers (which he did) to get back the extra monies. When that failed, he complained to the FERC, which agreed with him to an extent, but for the most part told him that it was his fault he signed the contracts.
Then there was the possibly illegal increase in auto registration fees. A lot of people are getting hurt by the tripling of fees. In California, auto registration is based on the value of the car. I was lucky enough to not get hit by the increase in fees, and for my Camaro, I still had to fork over $215 for registration. I would have paid nearly $600 (some of the fees that go with registration are unchanged) to register my car. Even my little Saturn, for which I paid $86 this year, would have gone up to about $200.
What else, aside from the campaign dirty tricks? Oh, yes -- the constant campaigning. Rarely was Davis seen in Sacramento doing actual governing. He was always on the campaign trail -- even AFTER he was elected a second time, and you can only serve two terms as governor in California.
There was the lie during last year's campaign. Bill Simon said that the state was facing a shortfall of $25 billion. Davis shrugged it off and said it was $10 billion, that Simon didn't have the right numbers. After the election, it climbed almost weekly, until it hit $38 billion in January -- more than all of the other state budget deficits combined. Then word came out that Davis knew it would be almost this bad last summer, when he was saying Simon didn't know what he was talking about.
We had plenty of reason to recall him. This wasn't a "Republican coup" by any means.

If California were a separate economy, that's where it would rank in the world.Uhm, Why is California listed seperate from the U.S.?

Fixer, do you really have to ask? It's because the graph is supposed to demonstrate just how huge the economy in California is, and how it rivals most nations even though it is not a seperate nation. Of course some of that may have to do with interstate commerce, but it's still impressive.
Of course I am assuming that the U.S. bar INCLUDES California, but then they also show how well California would be doing all by itself.
Since I've lived in the Midwest my whole life, I have always been a bit uncomfortable with the size of such states as California and Texas. They are big and super-populated and just generally foreign to me. I can't really say anything about California except I would be slightly afraid to go there. It almost seems like by moving to California, I would be a conformist.

When a governor has to buy electricity from Mexico (I read that was what he was doing) when Mexico has a electricity problem itself, it means a cow could be a better governor.
People in Mexico said that Arnold would lose because of all the latinos that hate him for the 187 stuff and his recent statements. BUT... <latino thinking>If you were a latino that migrated to the US, and you're doing hell better... would you let others come and take part of it? OF COURSE NOT</latino>. A famous writer here said that the worst enemy of a mexican is a mexican. So I think most latinos voted for Arnold, even if some liked Cruz.
Personally, for what I've read in the MX newspapers, republicans aren't a good idea for governing neither a state nor a country, but I can't say I know enough to make an opinion. I hate Bush for crushing us after saying no to the war against Iraq (trust me, the USD cost has reflected such policy), but I don't know what would be the difference if he were a democrat.
I just know that this guy flushed more money than anyone before, he deserved the flush himself

For sake of comparison. California is included in the figure for the United States but when seperated it is the Fifth largest economy in the world. It accounts for 13% of the nations output. The next lowest state economy is New York's which is approximatley 60% the size of California's.
The information compiled can be found here cortousey the California Legislative Analysts Office. You can google this info and find it backed up on many other sources.

I've not seen anything about that, though I don't have the entire list of providers handy. Most of our power comes from in-state, from surrounding states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona), or from Canada. California has some pretty strict environmental requirements for its power producers, and many of Mexico's power plants generally don't put environmental concerns very high.

Come on, you got to give him a chance first. I would have preferred Bustamante win, but so long as somebody else is in office...
In any case, though there were probably better candidates on the list, I think Arnold may, just may, be able to pull it off.

So, what you're essentially saying is that 3,743,431 californians, or 55% of everyone who voted, are idiots, and don't know what's good for us?
Look past your preconceived notions and empty insults, and try to be objective about things, for pete's sake. I'm sick of people thinking that just because he's an actor that he's a retard. Ronald Reagan was an actor, and went from being an outstanding governer to one of our nation's most celebated presidents.
People that say stuff like "I hate Bush, he's a retard" strike me as having absolutely no clue what's going on in real life. Give me a real argument, then we'll talk.
