I'm almost ashamed to say it at this point, but I'm 100% MSIE. I've used Opera, Nutscrape, and Avant... but with each of those, I always found myself saying "Well, I need to do x and I can't," or "Why can't y work with this damn thing?!"

Granted, the CONSTANT crashes get annoying, but you learn to copy and paste URLs quickly.

i would be the unfortunate peon stuck with internet explorer 6.0. It works for my simple needs, i s'pose. I'd like something with more pizzaz and less simplicity, but i'm a budget computer junkie. I think it all relies on your ISP, really... :shifty:

Especially if you're on a budget.. Mozilla firebird is free. And once you get into tabbed browsing, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it.

before i look deeper into it, could you take a second to define "tabbed browsing" for me?

Taken from mozilla.org:
Tab-Browsing

Image
Background Tabs (shown in red) let you open pages to read later without leaving the current page

The Mozilla Firebird browser makes browsing easier than ever before with best Tab-Browsing around. Tab-Browsing changes the way you use the internet by allowing you to open links on a page in background "Tabs" and then read them when you're ready. No confusing new windows, no need for context menus, just hold down Ctrl when clicking a link, or use your middle mouse button (if you have one). Tab-Browsing is central to the Mozilla Firebird browser, you can set your home page to be a group of Tabs. You can open an entire folder of bookmarks in Tabs.

Image
"Open in Tabs" opens contents of Bookmarks Folder in Tabs

Browsing with Tabs makes browsing the internet faster and more efficient. You can concentrate on reading each page without the confusion of having to switch between windows. As you're reading each page, links you have opened in background Tabs load, so when you're ready to read them they've already loaded and you don't need to wait.

Tab-Browsing can be likened to a TiVo DVR with two tuners - record two programs while you watch another - but in the case of Tab-Browsing you can download many pages in the background while you read the first. TiVo has changed the way people watch TV, and likewise Tab-Browsing is a revolutionary change to the way you browse the internet. Mozilla Firebird brings you the simplest, most intuitive version of Tab-Browsing you will find.

hmm...i never would have known it existed. i feel mundane now. thanks for the info! I'll definitely check it out sometime in the near future. does that work with all ISPs? That sure beats having millions of windows floating around on my start bar...

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

Your browser hasn't got anything to do with the ISP.
Tabbed browsing is very easy for example, when browsing the forum you can open topics that might interest you in new tabs, continue browsing the front page, then read the opened tabs with the posts, or open bookmarked online comics all in tabs, saves lots of time opening them from bookmarks one by one.

okay, it makes sense. and is also quite sensible. makes life a lot easier from what i see. like you said, how have i survived so long without it?! I just wasn't sure if certain browsers didn't support certain ISPs. For instance, i couldn't use AOL's browser to run earthlink, could I?

I wouldn't know. I can't really understand why AOL would have it's own browser.. must be proxy settings or something

It's a 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a packet of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it.

IE and Firebird.

Pretty decent combination if you ask me. :)
