Another reason I hate America...

Post by ArcaneMagik » Wed Oct 15, 2003 6:37 am

Well its not another reason... hell I don't hate many of you guys that much.

Just... Internet connections in Australia suck dingos balls...

Sure we have the choices of Dialup (which I suffer), ADSL (which I want) and Cable (Which i would have if I was mister rich bastard)... but these are all capped. Yep... cable to 3 gigs on the most reasonable plan, adsl to various ammounts (16 gig for AUS$80 per month) and well... Dial up is shitty as.

I have heard from my American and Canadian friends about the sweet as internet you get there...

and for this I feel like I should hate you...

cept you are all so nice in a cute fluffy bunny kind of way.... If cute fluffy bunnies had WOMD and made most of the worlds TV.

So yeah... um... Kind of pointless now I read back on it... So i guess... Whats your connection like?

Heh, I guess if I were in your position, I would hate us too. But I'm not.

Out here, I got cable with about a 1mbps download and 128kbps upload (the upload saddens me...but that?s ok)

I take it by "capped" you're actually referring to metered traffic. (as capped usually refers to download/upload speed)

I think he means capped as in, if he transfers more than 3 gig a month, he gets shut down. :'(

Re-reading your post, I noticed you said that. Guess I just missed it the first time. :shifty: Oh well. No harm done.

Pretty much the same in NZ regarding the whole 'damn the USA for having better options' thing.
Pretty much anything that isnt dial-up is capped/leveled (Whatever you want to call it), usually to the tune of 5GB international traffic. Of course, given New Zealands small size, almost all the places you want to surf on the net are going to be international.
Future development of various networks and technologies to make things cheaper is always 'on the way'. :glare:

If you must know, 3Mbps down, 256kbs (throttled) up, Comcast Cable, $50USD/mo

and if I could ship bandwidth by SR-71 Blackbird--huge stealth reconasiansce jet flys at Mach3 at 100,000 feet  -- I would.

'til then, turn off pictures unless you need them, saves loads of bandwidth.

I use comcast right now, but not the professional or whatever it's called. 6 month intro offer. $19.99 plus $3 a month rent for the modem($22.99=approx $33.40 AUS) for 6 months for 1.5dl/256ul. It's not bad, particularly since I spent the last couple of years of my life with nothing but my 56K dialup and dialing into an area that has MAX 28.8. It's been driving me crazy.
My sig would have contained the secret of life, but I'd already clicked submit.

Killer-Rabbit,
Well, Til you realize who's watching you. HAHAHA (I'm not kidding, you should read the policies most campuses have about their networks)

w00t for comcast. 1.5mb down/256k up. Slow ass upload, but I manage.

My uni connection would be good, if it wasn't for the fact that it costs $NZ0.17 per Mb, and its behind a firewall. :( Plus the fact we had to pay $NZ200 to get connected from our rooms at the start of the year.
I think he means capped as in, if he transfers more than 3 gig a month, he gets shut down. :'(
I have a variation on that, I have 512down/128up dsl, but a 4 gig download cap, if i go over the cap i get charged about 5 cent(emu) per meg (cutting me off would mean too much effort) I couldn't be arsed to download tv series or films etc anyway, so it mostly goes on surfing and games, and it doesn't bother me too much, ive gotten used to working with it. also, and surprisingly for eircom, the service is pretty good too.

It all depends who you're connected with. I work for an ISP, got connected for 100% faster than I asked for (512Kbps), and am yet to recieve a bill for equipment, connection and data.
