Cellphones

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Cellphones

Post by Arthur » Wed Oct 22, 2003 7:28 am

Hey Liz, My uncle JUST closed down a Cellphone store otherwise i might have been able to get you a deal.

Let me just say that cellphone stores make profit not in celling phones (they take a loss there) but in signing contracts.

((wow, i said celling not selling, lol)

So its NOT the company who's screwing you over but the cellphone stores. The entire industry is built on selling contracts. Only people with tons of money buy new phones (completly new) and modern ones. So the money isint there.

Hope that helps even a bit. I know a guy in brooklyn who does good buisness and might help but that doesnt help you in Cali.

Sorry :-(

Edit: If you really wanna try dealing with a store in NYC, i can give you the number. Tell him Arthur Igor's son reffered you and he'd give you extra attention. (My dad brings him gallons of buisness)

One of my friends would call up his cellphone company and ask them, hey since I don't actually have a contract with you, what are you willing to do for me to keep me as a customer.

He then proceeds to list of demands of things that he wants
- New Cellphone (one that I paid $129 for)
- I don't want my night hours to change from 8pm to 9pm (I have switched a long time ago)

He is then handed off to someone else in the company that can help him, and he gets everything he wants and winds up saving more money . . .

Morale of the story - Call up your Cellphone provider and start threatening to switch companies if they don't give you what you want. :)

well, I was going to suggest what thearchgu said. Call up AT&T and complain and bitch at them. That's what my parents have done whenever they need some sort of special deal with their AT&T phones and it has worked out fine for them every time. Good luck with the calling and yelling at AT&T.

Well, here is what happended to me and my dad, and what we will do again.

1. "lose" phone (thats my fault, but the 1 year contract was about to expire)
2. Call AT&T and ask for a new phone.
3. When told that one new phone will cost $150, threaten to switch to another company.
4. End up demanding 3 phones (for the whole family, they are all "$150" each  ), extra minutes a month, and extra year in contract. (not to mention the other bonus stuff.)
5. AT&T says "yes we will give you stuff, just don't leave us alone."
6. Sit back, relax and wait for new FREE phone to come in...

So in other words just what happened to that other guy, thearchgu.

EDIT:: note that we did not pay for anything...

just remember:
1. Threaten
2. Threaten
3. Threaten
4.-10. Threaten
11. fufill threats :)

on the flip side of the coin...do you really need a cell phone? Personally I have no need to own one...you may be different...if I need to be contacted...well they can just call me at home...I certainly don't want to get the phone call to tell me to go to the store to get the bread.

If AT&T does not give in to the threats like SprintPCS does (my company, very good in my opinion), we all could always just send in like $10 or so, just ten people doing this would allow her to get the phone she wants, I am sure we can spare $10, I would...

So does the instant rebate not apply? I'm confused. It says right on the webpage you link to, Liz, that there is an instant rebate for the entire price of the phone. Unless there is something that prevents that rebate from taking place...

edit: Ok, I think I see what you meant. Looks like this rebate only applies upon new membership. Maybe you should sign up for this "new" account and request that the phone number from your old account be transferred to the new one... unless this process would lose any benefits you may have gained. Sorry, i'm not very versatile with cellphone procedures since I don't have one myself (not social enough). Good luck!

There's a lot of truth there, I know that. Threaten to leave AT&T a lot of companies will bend over backwards to make you stay with them, it works that way with nearly every major company.

Liz, I've got a friend who works at AT&T, I'll talk to him. What kind of phone are you looking for? Just polyphonic/color or are there any other specifics?

That's not very nice. No wonder my AT&T Wireless stock tanked. You keep raping them for new phones.

Yesterday I was at work and my boss told me I had to give her my cellphone number in case she ever needed to reach me. I threw my phone down on the floor and told her I don't have one.

So I guess I am a crazy person.

Wow, that all sounds pretty bad that you've got to ring your cell provider and threaten them to get the level of service you deserve.

Where I live there's only 3 major phone companies and they're really competitive, I switched contracts and got a new 3rd Gen phone for free*, better service, better coverage, and cheaper calls. And I didn't have to ring them and ask what they could do for me. They went out of their way to be helpful.

I have no idea what the situation with phone companies are in the US, I hear it's a nightmare. But my advice would be if you're not happy with your current level of service, ring a good compeitior and ask then why you should switch to them. You might be surprised at what they'll offer.
