it will certainly meet their minimum system requirements excet for they say 800 mhz and a pentium 3

i would say it would be a certan fact you would need broadband to play, in case you don't have it, and in highly populated areas, like qufim you might get laggy.

so your pushing close to the wire...so it could go either way it would depend on how optimized your computer is i would say. And how patient you are with some lag.

you would probaly have to play at 640x480 at the 256x256 textures...maybe 512x512. but you probaly can play it.

My brother got it to work on his 800MHz Athlon with a GeForce 4 MX card. He's running at 640x480 with I think 512x512 but it may be 256x256 - I'd have to check. About the only thing he can't do is approach the Auction Houses. For that he has to log in to my computer. :)

(Seriously, there are so many people outside an AH that it actually lags my computer, too. Just too many models on screen at once.)

So, yeah, it's probably run, and be playable. Just not that well, and you'd have to be willing to put up with extremely low framerates in areas with a lot of people on screen.

Ok, so I just got on over to Phoenix, I made a Mithra Thief in the Elvaan capital. At what level can I start doing something other than randomly killing things in the countryside? How do I get a better weapon/armor? Just curious how to do something productive instead of wandering around randomly killing things. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well, the best thing to do is start off doing the little fetch quests for various NPCs. One of the best ones is the Bat Wing quest. Collect two wings, trade to the NPC (Norther San D'oria, Sec.. soemthing or other) and get 200 gil in return.

Also, make sure whenever you go out fighting stuff, be sure to have Signet cast on yourself from a gate guard so you can get crystals for item creation.

By the time you get to lvl 7 or so you should be able to do most of the quests in East and West Ronfaune.

I'll be running around that area, so If yo need help, contact me. Caldalrisa, Mithra R. Wiz

Anyone know how to switch to japanese type? Or if it can be done at all? I hypothetically know enough japanese to attempt to talk to japanese people I run into on the game if I could figure out how.

dmpotter,

I'ce had some connectivity issues when I used ICS/Proxys to connect with my gaming computer, but as soon as I had the physical connection on my gaming box as opposed to my linux firewall and router, everything worked fine. I'm thinking the POL Viewer has issues handling that kind of thing.

Too bad connecting my PC directly to the Internet is a physical impossibility then...

(Well, actually, it isn't - I could always unplug everyone off the switch and then plug the switch uplink directly into the cable modem, but that would be stupid. Especially since my computer, the switch, and the modem are in three different rooms.)

Basically, the way our home network is set up, it's through the LinkSys firewall/NAT or bust. No real other options, unless I want to kick everyone else off the network. Which I don't.

Considering that every other PlayOnline feature works except the update, you'd think they could release a "manual update" program or something on their website that allows you to download the entire update through HTTP, since that works for me.

I'm probably going to try and open a support ticket and see if I can get any response, but I got nothing back from them the last time I tried. (Other than an auto-response.) However, not until after Christmas. I have too much other stuff to do right now.

Or the day the bazzar was launhed. 300+ people crammed into one area, all trying to get the best spots right near the entrances. It seriously took me 30 minutes to take one step once. Just stare at the floor, work a camera angle so you do see everyone all at once. It goes easier on your system.

Whats the lowest level character ever to run alone to Jeuno from San d'Oria, without help whatsoever, without being killed/attacked?

I did it with my level 14 warrior just today, whee!
Anyone lower?

lowest ive seen so far is about 17-18
the only problem is, you are going to have a hard time finding a party at level 14 if you are going to quifim because the majority of peeps are going to be 20+ and will need a tough tank.

Of course if you are going there for chuckles and grins thats alright ...
but you would do better staying in the dunes till about 17-18 range

Hehe, yes I know.
I just wanted to try running into the wilds, and oh my, look where I ended up! ^^
Not looking very much forward to the return journey, as I expect to die. Luckily my homepoint is still set in San d'Oria, so dying would be the best way to travel :P
That said, I'm not planning to go hunting anything around here, as they're all rated Incredibly Tough to me :D
Gonna look around a bit in the town before anything though, as I believe I was very lucky to make it here alive.
It was quite an experience actually, running around dodging monsters, looking around nervously all the time, knowing that anything could 1-hit-KO me

Ah well, wish me luck! :|

Ah well, made it back in one piece too. :D
There really should be a thread somewhere for general FFXI discussion, so that I could congratulate Greg with his new chocobo licence!
Anyway, hunted in Valkurm all night and got my subjob, so whee!
Slowly catching up with Greg, yay, and I truly hope I can hunt with some ShirtNinjas soon. And as the ShirtNinjas are full I had to be in another linkshell, and kinda likes it there now... Though ShirtNinjas would rock. Oh well, cant have everything I guess...
This post is probably going to get moved or something for going so way out of topic, so anyway. Cya in Vana 'Diel!
