I have killed so many orcs, i could build a city out of orc parts, start my own faction, have it get taken by orcs, then have to kill more orcs again. For the love of god, how many orcs do we have to kill to end this madness?? My kung fu grows weary of killing orcs!
For the record, you can still get crystals if you go to La Thien Plateau with Signet on and kill there. I get craploads of em from there.
Yeah I know, when I get board I just go raid the Orc outpost and come back with axes to pawn off.

BTW Jushiro, hows the armor I sold ya.

Everyone should have a nice PSX pad to control their FFXI. There is nothing like playing with a nice PSX pad... I keep saying PSX pad because of this.

Yes, I have a completely functional PSX port block on the front of my computer. Took me a couple days to put it together.
Wow...that's cool, yet amazingly unnecessary. Could have just spent ten bucks at Fry's and bought a PSX -> USB adapter. :D
That $10 adapter at Fry's/Radio Shack won't work. They map the axis' to buttons. So you have eight buttons for your two analog sticks instead.(Unless the Fry's adapter is different.) The EMS USB2 adapter maps everything out properly and FFXI can use it. Besides, having working memory cards is nice. Playing Lunar: SSSC and having it save to your memory card and then just passing the card to friend is so amusing. I just like the look of it and it keeps the clutter of wires down. :D

The one I got, the KIKY PSX -> USB adapter, works fine. I had to get an updated driver, but the analog sticks are very much analog. Works beautifully.

Say you buy 2 FFXI's and you want to play on the same account for both games. Could you play at the same time with different games on the same account with different characters? Or do you have to make a new account?

when you change jobs do your HP & MP totals change to reflect your new profession? or can you theoretically create an uber-character by maxxing out your level in every job?

Sorry if this has already been suggested. But if the linkshell problem is ONLY people being logged in, ergo, if the maximum amount of people in the link shell are logged in, the second one of them logs out a new member can join, wouldn't that provide a loop hole?

You log in, become a member and log out for 5 hours. This means that you won't contribute to the maximum number of people allowed in the link shell because you won't be logged in.

Althoug a problem would happen where let's say the max is 100 people. And by using the log out loophole, 200 people are able to join. What happens when the 200 people all try to log in at once?
Has anyone figured out a use for beastmen's seals yet?
According to one of the earlier updates, those seals are also used to create high-level spheres/orbs. It takes a lot of them for that though, so in the meantime I'm keeping every one I find (they're not limited to lots of 12 at a time).

Guys, we need to get our territory back from the Beastmen. I suggest that sometime this weekend we all just stay in East & West Ron. for one day and wipe out the beastmen and keep the noobs from getting iced so much. It's not that I realy need to get crystals there since I can just go to the Plateau and get them there, but some of our lower level LS member and all the noobs can't get crystals at all now. So guys, what do you think about that?

In case anyone is curious, the update is here.

More information can be found in the GameZone review, located here, and in the RPGfan review, located here. A messageboard thread located here also goes into some detail about their use.

This thread also indicates they may be used to go to Jueno, though I'm not entirely certain of its validity, since its the only mention I hear as such.

And I'm Googled out.

**EDIT TO ADD ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
when you change jobs do your HP & MP totals change to reflect your new profession? or can you theoretically create an uber-character by maxxing out your level in every job?
Unfortunately, no. The statistics of your character are calculated based on what job your character currently is, ignoring any other job levels said character may have. There are two exceptions, however. Your skills do carry over, as long as the class you are changing to can use them. However, your skills are capped by level (4 or 5 at first level), so a 70th level Warrior character changing to a 1st level monk will not have uber statistics, but will probably be better off than a beginning character (though not by much).

The second exception is a suport job. When you reach a specific level (which I believe is somewhere between 15 and 20) and go on a quest (per the manual), you gain the ability to have a support job. What a support job does is grant you some of the abilities of another job, capped at half your level and by the level of the job you choose to sub (I believe it is the 'powers' of a job, but not the ability to use the equipment of said job, but don't quote me on that). It also confers attribute bonuses based on that job. A link to a statistic calculator for Race/Class/Support Class is located here.

Did anyone else have problems installing FFXI, and if so...

Post by crombie » Wed Nov 05, 2003 1:31 pm

How did you fix it?

First time poster. long time reader (well, I spent many a long night catching up on reading, that is :P )

Basically I think the problem might lie with my DVD+RW drive - I have read on other forums that there may be problems installing using anything other than a plain ol' CD-ROM. Personally I think that's a bunch of horse hockey, and anyone that actually distributes CD's of this quality to customers should be shot, stabbed, and hung out to dry, but I digress...

The problem comes up on Disc 2 of the installation, at 58%, trying to read/copy 40.dat, giving error 1305. I can scootch it along to 60% hitting retry, but it never gets past that file.

I am running WinXp Home, P4-2.66GHz, 512MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 128MB video, Creative SB Live! sound, 30GB HD, and have an NEC DVD+RW drive.

I realize this isn't a tech forum, but maybe someone else had this problem, and has a fix for it. One suggestion I have seen is copying the CD'd to my hard drive and installing from there, but I haven't had the time to try that yet.

Any help would be appreciated :)
