Virtue

Post by Dragonmaster Zoc » Tue Nov 18, 2003 1:26 pm

I have become disillusioned with humanity, forum-goers in particular. Is there no one out there who follows the law? Anyone at all with enough self-restraint to not swear or cheat or lie?

If not, could you at least fake it? Please?

Self-righteousness and over-sensitivity are probably a bad combination on this forum
Why not go join knittingcircle.com if us hell-bound heathens are offending your delicate sensibilities so much?

Heathens? I would also ask that you leave religion out of it, but I wouldn't want to place a limit on theological duscussion.

Convince me why I would want to do that.

Surely nothing can be able to convince you that humanity is perfect!

'Heathen' is not exclusively a religious term
Regardless: I assumed this was spawned (no pun intended) by the 'Master-Beta' thread after your comments there
I could be wrong, and if so, could you please be a little more specific as to what you're referring to by implying we're all immoral, cheating liars as I, for one, am a bit miffed at that.

Absolutely not. I am having a great time lying stealing and cheating. You leave me alone! You have no right to tell me how to live!

Wow... humanity isn't perfect. I'm glad you let us know. Here I was, living in a fantasy world that... wait... oh, that's right. I think everyone is an idiot. Nevermind.

Oh please. Not everyone on this forum lies, cheats and swears. Don't judge the community as a whole based on the words/actions of a few. I don't know how many times I have said this, but I hate generalizations. I can think of quite a few people that do not fit into your profiling. Furthermore, I don't make a habit of cussing on the forums; if I have issued a swear word, it was a rare example and probably a minor word. Feel free to look through all my posts in an attempt to prove me wrong.. I will even send you $5 if you find five or more examples of my posts containing offensive language.

Secondly, I would like to point out that Rorschach was correct. Heathen is not a term solely used for religious purposes. Heathen can mean uncivilized or unenlightened as well as pertaining to being irreligious.

I don't meet Zoc's approval, it seems. To me, morals means not hurting anybody. To me, morals mean helping people when they need it, being kind to people, letting people know how special they are, not treading on people.

To me, safe, consensual sex between two people, both of which have communicated their level of commitment, is well within the boundaries of moral behavior. To me, refraining from swearing if you're in a place where it might offend, say in a church may be a problem. But to me, there is no problem at all with swearing in a forum where it has been agreed by the majority that occasional swearing is acceptable.

To me, making accusations and generalizations of those who may not share your own personal values is not within the realm of the moral.

And Lying? Cheating? Where are you seeing that?

Awww man.... looks like I'm a pretty lousy example of a human being.

Wait... I already thought that. in fact, my apparently corrupted morals were one of the few things I clung to that were good about me. Looks like I suck all around.

Right.....
