Buster Sword

Post by AVoiceInYourHead » Wed Nov 19, 2003 8:18 am

Hey, im new here, and ive been lurking for some time. A while back i saw a replica buster sword that i believe Greg has. Well some friends and are going to try and make one and i was just curious if you guys have any advice on it?

Those are pictures of gregs, and our idea whas to get a block of aluminum, around 5-6 ft long, and 3-5 inches wide(just rough estimates, we'll figure out the right size before we do anything), and use a table saw with a metal cuting blade to shape it, and weld it to a block for the part above the handle. As for the handle itself it seems just to be a mag light threading into a piece thats threaded into said piece above handle. Anyway, im just looking for what anyone else thinks about it.

Well, if you want to waste your money, you can attempt to make one yourself. It would probably be best just to buy one...

Actually making one yourself would be awsome. I don't know much about metal work but with the time and effort it would take, spending the $300 and buying one already made is probaly a better way to go.

If you've never done this sort of thing before, it could easily be messed up. But.. if you're into doing stuff like this or know someone who is and could help you.. I say go for it. Telling people "Oh look at the sword I bought" is always nice.. but saying "Hey check it out!! I made this sword!!" is much, MUCH cooler.

Just don't carry it around at conventions, they might not like that :D

Aluminium? Pah.

Go for proper steel. You have to beat it into a chevron pattern (kinda like \/\/\/ )around the core of the sword (Big strong steel cylinder) while it's hot.
You'll want to extend the core into the handle, so it won't snap off when you lift it.

Hell, after a few months of practice, you might even be able to lift the finished article.
