Sorry, Lith, but generally people don't listen to anime fans when they talk about Japanese culture or language unless they have a degree or something.
Wouldn't that negate everything said here, then? ^.^;

And Salv, if you're going to be a n00b, at least give us a chance at making fun of you. It's no fun when you do it on your own. ^.^;

Ohhhhh and there are Ninjas
*slap* Incorrect. The plural of ninja is NINJA. No "s". One ninja=ninja. Many ninja=ninja. Get it right :P

Anyways, the movie is already completely buggered up if you're going by the actual historical events that the movie is based upon. Read about it here: http://www.thehistorynet.com/mh/blsunse ... index.html

Having an american as the main protagonist was the first mistake. Now all I wanna go to see the movie for is to see how much they screwed it up.

BTW, Salvation, wassap fellow dakkaite?

Alex, I assure you, not even the Japanese get that story right. Its more of a romanticism - by both sides of the ocean.

P.S. Thanks for the link. I had been asking questions about this to alot of people lately... before I knew of The Last Samurai coming out even. (I was inspired by the PS2 Way of the Samurai game)

*waggles a sheet of paper* you mean this degree?? With two Japanese teachers and one highly obsessive white guy. Dude had a heartattack in the final year DURING mid terms...his only worry "Can I still go to China for my sabbatical tomorrow?"

I laughed my ass off loudly in the theatre when I saw Tom Cruise written out. Ooooooooo boy. It was 1230 in the morning though, so it was prolly patially that. But you're right it does look very...weird. If you're lucky, sensei will give you a name closer to something more real in that language. And if you're super nuts, like me, you go look up the original meaning of your last name so you can find the equivilent kanji to the meaning, get it approved and then find your sensei demands you use for ALL communication with the Japanese dignitaries you're escorting during their visit. DAMN......

and he gets SUPER hyper that they call you -san, and then within hours they all insisit on calling you -chiyan/chan and buying you MASSIVE amounts of Hello Kitty omiyage...... Crazy ol tiny Japanese man.

I would also like to add that I am by no means fluent or think I know everything. I know what bit I've been taught and I'm thankful for that.

But I swear to GOD if there is any frekkin SEX with that Japanese chick *or anybody else* in this movie I will so rant about it somewhere else...maybe here...that just pisses me off...movies would so much better without all the damn humping.....
