Explain to me/the appeal of anime.
I just don't get it...what's the rush?
Why are all of you making all this fuss?
Talkin' 'bout "Ramna" and "NGA".
I just don't understand it. Anyway...
Now keep in mind, I'm not dissin' y'all.
I am not otaku, don't understand it all.
So help me people, 'cause I can't see.
Explain to me, the appeal of anime.
My exposure is little, just Pokemon.
Whoops. Y'all started laughing. Already you're gone.
But take me seriously, stop playin', cuz'
Until six months ago, I didn't know what hentai was.
But now I do. All too well.
I can hear Garr say "So what?!? I think it's swell!"
So help me people, 'cause I can't see.

they are just cartoons representative of another culture.
most of us like them cause the detail is soooo
damn cool.here, cartoons arent taken as seriously
its just for kids.thats why pokemon did so well.
to us, it was the marketing potential.
this isnt the rule for most anime (japanese cartoons)
the fan base ages range pretty far.
you need to see a good many of them to
find out which appeal to your tastes. if you dont like
pokemon, dont use that as a basis for comparison,
there are many out there you probably WILL like.
i would recommend some, but it wouldnt help.
our tastes, like noted, range all over.
if you are really interested, try renting a few titles
from your local store. even a comic store might rent anime.
read the backs and see which stories you like.

Here's what I don't understand - it's from the Eastern countries right, but all the characters in it are tall with the hugest, roundest eyes I have ever seen.
they are just cartoons representative of another culture.
What's that all about?

I can dig that, what I was wondering was why the characters are so unlike their creators. Why they have completely changed the Eastern 'look', y'know?most of us like them cause the detail is soooo
damn cool.
They're not though are they? They have completely westernised their looks?they are just cartoons representative of another culture.
Like I say, I don't watch it so chances are I am talking rubbish
To Let
Most people watch anime because it deals with different issues than American cartoons do. In anime, someone will shoot a person and actual blood will go flying. (Unless you are watching it edited on Cartoon Network...blood, curses, sometimes guns get edited out.) They deal with everything from serious drama (Grave of the Fireflies) to horror (Hellsing) to comedy (Ranma 1/2)....there's at least one anime for every genre you can name.
Some people watch it for the artwork. (Which I will note is derived from American animation, which is why it looks more Western.) There are some shows that are just gorgeous to watch (Ghost in the Shell, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)....animation that you just can't find in the US. Sure, things like Batman Beyond look fairly different from 'typical' American animation, but it's really a rarity instead of the norm.
In short, it's just more entertaining than the dull plotlines of Bugs Bunny.
Ramna1/2...well...that seems like straightup transvestitism to me.
And I heard there was a Pokemon where James got breast implants.
Ranma 1/2 = transvestite? Not quite
Especially considering most of the characters turn into animals. It's a martial arts romantic comedy. Basically, a girl who hates boys is forced to be engaged to a boy who turns into a girl when splashed with cold water. Hot water turns him back into a boy. (The boy is a martial artist and the girl's family owns a dojo...which was the whole reason for their parents arranging the marriage.) The boy's dad turns into a panda when splashed with cold water, one of the guys turns into a little black pig, another guy into a duck, one of the girls turns into a cat....and it just keeps going. It ends up with Ranma being engaged to like 5 different women for various reasons and how he deals with them.
As for the Pokemon one, I believe James is supposed to be homosexual in the original Japanese version, but I'm not positive. I never really looked into it.
that can be about any animations.
clay cgi paper-cutouts dolls toys
we're talking about anime
Oh we are? See I had no idea.
Yes it can be about any animations, but Anime is the only animated genre that USES it because it's geared towards adults and older kids not children. Why would an animated cartoon for children want to use earth shattering effects not availible in conventional film?

Common misconception. Anime isn't necessarily geared towards adults. (Though we'd like to think that.) Yes, there are adult-oriented anime....but there's just as much geared toward the younger crowd.
