I would urge anyone who thinks young kids don't know any curses to ride the elementary school public buses.

Yeah, it is bad these days. I remember when I was in 3rd-4th grade, using profanity was basically unheard of and now it is almost commonplace. I guess that is the effect of media on today's society. Of course we let media get that way too.

That's not the media, that's the school bus.

Well, how did the school bus get that way?

I see nothing morally wrong with profanity, and I really can't see how someone can get all offended because of the South Park movie uncut. Yes, theaters cannot allow people under 17 into an R movie... unless they're with an adult. So if you're a parent who doesn't want your kid watching this movie, you could, hmm, I dunno, NOT LET THEM WATCH IT? It was on in the middle of the night, for crying out loud! Be a parent! And if your kids sneak down and watch it, smack 'em around. That usually gets the message across. :shifty:
In the end though, it's really the bees that get Sam.

There are Volvo ads on TV know featuring a child of about 4 saying "Bloody Volvo drivers" to her mother. I found it funny, but at the same time wrong because this is a child being told to say "bloody" to sell a car.

Also, children these days DO swear a lot. A primary school bus stops at our school in the afternoon and they stick their ugly little heads out the window and abuse the crap out of us. They use words I didn't even know existed at their age. It's so disgusting hearing it, and it's even worse hearing young kids talk about sex. Bah.
Jesus, lol.

...Shouldn't the fact that its one am stop any complaints right off the bat? I mean, if you're letting your sweet little innocent child stay up that late to watch television, ideally you're standing a close vigil over them, and as such they wouldn't even be VIEWING that program.

And if they are up that late and you're not watching them, you can hardly hold a telivison accountable for the free will of the child. Install a V-Chip if you're so worried about your childs moral fiber but realize you can't watch widdle Pookie 24/7. Honestly. Some people can handle and actually enjoy the foul language in a non-destructive manner. Use some personal responsiblity rather than mob mentality.

There's always the three hour argument; anyone on the West coast getting satellite from East coast (such as my family) would be getting the show at like nine or ten PM. My 8-year old sister could have seen that, even just while changing channels.

Dragonmaster Zoc: Then you sister stays up too late. Complain to your parents.

Bottom line: Cable companies generally air programs in the Central/Eastern time zone at the same time and in the Pacific/Mountain time zone at the same time, not necessarily at exactly the same time, often a couple hours apart. If it was aired at 1am Eastern, it was probably aired 12am Pacific. Even if it wasn't, there is no reason for a kid to be up that late. Period. I have a kid who is in bed by 8pm, sometimes 9pm if he slept in and has been very well behaved. I don't let him watch TV anyway since most of the garbage on there is... garbage. We watch movies, play video games, and he plays outside or with his toys.

It is amazing how much fun you can have when you elminate TV.

Fixer: have you played Lego with your kid? I found that if I had had Lego when I was younger, I wouldn't have been the same person I am today. Seriously!

Of course I play Lego with my kid! Considering most of them were mine when I was his age. (Yes, I kept them for over 20 years. He also inherited my jean jacket from when I was 4 that has more patches on it than anything. Very cool jacket.)

In my area, you have 13-19 year olds teaching 8-12 year olds swear words, how to fight, and stuff like that.

And this is a bad thing?

It's always best to be the kid who knows how to fight.

If your 8-year old sister was able to pause on the channel long enough to be exposed to that language, then your parents aren't doing a good enough job of regulating what your sister is watching. At 8 years old, TV-watching should be a group thing, not something the child can do alone.

I never had a TV in my room until I was in high school. These days, though, you've got 10 year olds with a PC, game systems, VCR, DVD player, TV and cable boxes all in their own room. Then their parents go out and buy them something like BMX XXX because they don't bother to educate themselves on what the game is actually like... all they know is it's on little Timmy's Xmas list. Then they bitch and moan about what kinds of messages games like this and GTA3 are sending our kids.

The message? Apparently the message is "Your parents are too dumb or lazy to take the time to regulate what you're being exposed to."
