Ideally if you weren't racist you wouldn't notice what race they were, you would just see a bunch of really annoying people.

I agree with Terrene.

Are you racist? Maybe.
If you're assuming that ALL black people act a certain way, yes that is racist. If you're assuming that just because they're black, they like rap, you're racist. Although if you recognize that everyone is an individual despite of race, and there are just some annoying people, that's different.

You should live in a place where the majority of people are black (e.g. Ghana). Then you'll see that there are as many personality differences in black people as there are in white people(or any other race). There are many whom you would get along with very well, many that you would despise.

Heh... White, Black, Asian, Latino, Whatever... If they annoy the piss out of me, they annoy the piss out of me.. Doesn't mean the rest of a certain race will, it just means a few individuals have annoyed me.... from what you say mista, it doesn't sound like you're racist, you just have annoying people around.
I really need a new sig....

Where I sit at work, I have a black guy behind me, a ... I think he's puerto rican behind me to my right and directly to my right is a haitian woman. My manager is a black woman. Two of the supervisors are black, one is white, all are female. About 2/3 of the people I work with are black, about 2/3 of the people I work with are women.

Am I racist or sexist for just acknowledging a person's race or gender? Pfffffft. I notice it like I notice ugly on a dog. It does not make the dog what it is, it is simply a trait of the animal. By the same note, a person's race is not who they are, although some seem to believe so. I LOOK like a tall white man. In actuality, I am Native American of the Creek Indian tribe, I just happen to look like my father. Who I look like is not who I am, so I refuse to believe that anyone else is who they look like. The body is just a shell, a machine, a way of interacting with the world. The body is not who we are, because the body is just a structure that houses us.

Race and gender are irrelevant. Actions, motivations, spoken words... those are what a person is. Those are what make people ugly or beautiful to me.

..Fixer, you always end the topic. Let it breathe just a LITTLE longer before totally and completely destroying it. But.. You DO destroy it in a good way, I'll give you that.

Really? I've been out for a long time dealing with ReallifeRO. This is the first time I have posted on here in months.

I was actually linked to this thread through mIRC, and didn't realise it was in the "Rants and Raves" section.

Lots of fun though :P

Allright...here's the deal...i don't define you as a racist based on what you have said...but, you seem that you may be on the verge of having, at least, some nasty stereotypes. Gotta keep focused that like Jimi Hendrix...not all black people are in that social group...heck, many white, latino and asian kids are falling into that category too. Its okay not to get along with everyone in that group. I don't...but I do have some friends that fall in that grouping. I also don't get along with most hardcore punks (they are mainly white), but I do get along with some of em. I even have some friends that are *gasp* kinda on the hickish side. Pickup driving...cowboy had wearing...country music listening...dip spitting hicks...But, some of em are pretty cool when you get to know em and maybe share a peace pipe...lol.

Just try to avoid letting a general grouping override individuality....

No, that would be if you were too oblivious to your environment to notice patterns, like the fact that that particular group of people has dark skin, broad noses, and curly black hair.

You wouldn't make note of it.

I said IDEALLY. I didn't say it was likely to happen.
Let's think: You get pissed and rant when they say they hate rock and roll. So of course, you say that rap is utter crap as well. Perhaps they listened to rock and roll and their honest opinion of it was that it wasn't that great, hm? But of course, they can't have, because you're right and they're wrong.
Well as I said before they don't listen to rock n roll. They didn't know who Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page were. They hadn't even heard any of their songs. But when I said rock n roll they instantly started to make fun of us because we listen to stuff like Blink 182. I didn't tell them that I listen to Blink 182. In fact I don't even listen to that. But because I said rock n roll they thought that is what I meant.

Now they said they listen to rap. I'm ok with that, but when the stuff they mentioned (Jay-Z and some other rapper whose name has slipped my mind at the moment...) was apparently "better" then the stuff that I listen to, and they've never heard, then yeah I think I should be able to critizise the stuff they listened to.

And yes not all rap is bad, but most of the stuff out these days isn't that great.

Most of the music that comes out these days is not that great. I find myself listening to music from my teenage years more often than any new stuff.

Yeah I usually listen to stuff from the 60's, 70's, and 80's (only Steve Vai and Joe Satriani from the 80's)

Theres only one band I listen to that still make songs now a days:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers

They haven't made one song I don't like.
