Saddam caught

Post by tankkisankari » Sun Dec 14, 2003 10:19 am

Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in Iraq, according to an unconfirmed report.

The former Iraqi leader was detained in his ancestral home town of Tikrit, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
Edited: took the question mark off, since it has been confirmed that it was indeed Mr Hussein.

It's all over the major news networks here in the US.

Also:
Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in Iraq, according to unconfirmed reports.
He was detained in his ancestral home town of Tikrit, Iraqi Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani said on the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

The US Defence Department said it had no confirmation of the report.

Saddam Hussein is the most wanted man on the list issued by US authorities but has not been seen since Baghdad fell to US forces in April.

Intensive search

A spokeswoman for US-led coalition forces in Baghdad said that a "very important" announcement would be made at a news conference at 1200 GMT but would not give further details.

Nazem Dabag, representative in Iran of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) also said that Saddam Hussein had been arrested.

Saddam Hussein has been the subject of intensive searches by US-led forces in Iraq but previous attempts to locate him have proved unsuccessful.

On 22 July his sons, Uday and Qusay, were killed in a raid by US forces in the northern city of Mosul.

How can DNA have proved it? He was jsut captured a few hours ago. DNA tests take days, if not weeks.

I'm at work, listening to NPR. I'm hoping that they'll cover the press conference which is supposed to have started already, but which may be running late.

Wow...I heard this on my way home from work. This is just amazing...

Watching video of Sadam being shown at press conference...Hair disheveled...full mangy beard...I'm glad they got him and I'm glad they got him alive. I also think its awesome that he was picked up based on a tip from an Iraqi resident...

Not a great picture, but here!!!

Blair has confirmed it, as have others (Google news) I'm listening on the radio here, they're talking about some footage released showing him, and saying that he was found waiting in a small "spider hole" with some weapons, but he apparently went without a fight.
This is good, now the Iraqis can put him on trial in Baghdad.

Yeah i was a bit suspect of the DNA tests, i mean he's only been in custody a few hours.

Still, those photos are pretty damn good. It looks alot like him

This is a great day, this campaign has not been a wase after all. Not that i ever thought it was.

Congrats the 4th Division on a good takedown

His doubles look, walk, talk, and sound like him. But scars based on previous coup attempts have provided initial verification.

I'll bet the first offer is life in prison instead of death in exchange for full answers and confessions.

He's been promised to Iraq, and preparations have been underway for some time to try him for crimes against humanity in Iraq.

Hmm, well I guess he wont be imprisoned there until is so secure everyone needs to fill out forms in triplicate to fart...

I dont want him to see the light of day again :)

Anyway, 4th did a good job with no shots fired. That is the best way to win :)
