I guess no one is Eastern Orthodox since it has not been brought up. But, apparently there is some bad blood between them and the Catholics.
well yeah, the two oldest sects of christianity would probably have rubbed shoulders in two thousand years of existance.

wow this thread is long...

1st thing's first:
call me narrow-minded, or petty... but there's a tiny thing bugging me with this survay...
since I'm not a native english speaker, and had to take some crap from teachers for making these mistakes, I now can't stand other people making them:
why are some religions in this pole mentioned by their name (such as Judaism and Islam) and others by their followers (like Christian or Atheist)...
I mean it should have either been judaism, islam, christianity and so on, or jewish christian and so forth...

second: homer great post mate ! covered most of what I wanted to say

third:
Agnostic. Looking into Taoism though. The more I hear about it, the more I like.
taoism is not a religion, it's a philosophy, a way of life if you will.
a couple of years back (before the army) I was quite into taoism, but it didn't work for me in the end, however I know quite a few who are christians or jews who are living the tao way of life...

Taoism is a religion.. It has gods..
Besides, all that religions really are, are philosophies of how to live your life..
Anyways, necroing something so old is a bad way to start out..

CyberEd, you're completely correct, of course. It was a kid posting, probably a product of the public school system.

Thanks for the necro... grrr.....

Anyway since it's back-
I've kinda come to the conclusion that who cares if god exists? I don't give a shit if he does or doesn't. Not saying I believe, not saying I don't. Just don't care anymore. I think I'll just continue on with my life and ignore it all.

So what would that make me? Agnostic?

Perhaps modern religions, Mike. The Sumerians did not conenct their gods in any way with moral behavior. They were just forces to be reckoned with, not shining exemplars or manifestations of good and evil.

Master, you say you don't care whether or not a god exists, but what if he does and sends you to hell ? Then you'd care. So I think it would only be wise to not care if you think he doesn't exist, if you think he exists but don't care the concequences could be big..

So, believe in God out of fear? Funny since I was just thinking to myself earlier that far too many people seem to believe in God not out of an actual belief, but out of fear of "OH NOZ! I'm gonna go to Hell". Sounds like a pretty silly reason to believe in something.

I say live your life the way you think you should. If you die, and there's a God, and even though you think you lived your life pretty well, yet you still suffer for eternity because you ate meat on Friday or something, then I say God is a prick and should loosen up. I don't want anything to do with anyone that uptight

I'm not saying he should believe out of fear, or that he should believe at all. I was just saying I think it's silly to not care if you think he might exist.

as far as I know in all 3 major monotheist religions the way you treat your fellow man is regarded highly than the way you treat god or mother nature

though I might only know as far as 30 miles...

But all those nice little rules such as we find in Leviticus are much more quantifiable and easier to detect than whether or not you're a good person. Bureaucracies love quantifiable data.

But you don't get it. I don't care. I'm not going to live my life in fear because of the possibility that god might exist and I might go to hell. Like billf or someone said, fear is a silly reason to believe in somthing. If he does exist and I go to hell then so be it, I'll regret it then but I don't care now.

Edit:

And I really hate the Christian "recuitment" stratagy of using fear and saying "YOU WILL GO TO HELL IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE!!!!!111!!!1!1ONEONEONEOMG!" Really fucking annoying.
