Re: [FFXI] General Chat
Has anyone noticed any patterns? It seems like the place that's chosen is based on when you verify your character (seeing the view of the city you're going to during verification), as I have had repeats when hitting enter at exact moments...
I am hitting escape before handle-association, but I keep hitting 7 different servers, after 30 minutes of trying.

Yea, I noticed something weird when I was doing the recreate to get to Odin becous noone in another board I'm apart of would give me a pass. But I kinda brushed it off sence I had only had the game for a day...
Also, I'm on Kahzam now, so check me for leveling ;p

FFXI - Character Class
Please someone explain to me what levels you can be and what not, it's confusing me like mad, i'm only 2 weks into the game, I play DAoC so i'm used to getting to 50, but it's like 65+ ?
And your advanced job can advance your basic job?
And you can have 3 advanced jobs as opposed to 1 adv 1 basic 1 secondry job? And what levels can they be?
But anyway, I need a character to get me going - Here are my 'what do you think about these' ideas:
Warrior (No idea for secondary class) Reason for these is whats the best thing to do, to complete a new game, and see how it works, it's ins and outs etc? The ground basic hack and slash.
Red Mage (No idea for secondary class) Best of all worlds.
Theif/Ninja (Or other way around or whatever) Speedy hack and slash with a hint of exotic to pull you through the game.
Monk/Samuri (What I am currently) - I choose Monk over Warrior because of the abbilities like boost and 100 fists.
White Mage/Summoner - Good groupabbility, and able to benefit avatars.
Warrior/Bard - Ground basic fighter, and in later levels they can group and benefit them.
So what do you guys think? = /

The original cap was 50. The current cap is 75. Once you hit 50, you need to do a quest to move your cap up 5 levels. You'll have to do that all the way to the current cap, too. Stupid Maat.
OK, here's the way it works - when you change to a given job, you are that job, period. Each of the 15 jobs has an individual XP level, and an individual level. For example, my BLM is 29, my WHM is 25, my THF is 16 and my NIN is 8 - all of these are individual levels tied directly to the job.
So, if I choose BLM as my main job and WHM as my sub job, I become BLM29/WHM14. This means I have all the main abilities of a 29BLM, including any spells I know that a 29BLM can cast. I also have all the abilities of a 14 WHM (except the WHM 2-hour ability - you can only use your main WHM). Likewise, all your attributes will be enhanced based on the abilities of a 14WHM. I'm not sure exactly how this works - it isn't simple addition, there's some kind of forumla to determine how your attributes are enhanced.
A simple example is that at level 11 WHM gets Cure II, and at level 25 WHM gets Raise. So as a BLM29/WHM14, I can cast Cure II, but I cannot cast Raise.
If I change so I'm WHM/BLM, I become 25WHM/12BLM, and can cast Raise, but can only cast the spells of a level 12 black mage.
Only your main job receives experience - so in order to raise your support job's level, you must switch your main job to your current support job and level using that as your job.
Warrior / ? - your basic tank and melee class. Works well in parties.
Red Mage / ? - I'd suggest BLM as a sub to RDM - I'm RDM59/BLM29 right now. RDM works really well when soloing - but it's also essential in parties once RDM gets Dispel (34?) and Refresh (41). RDMs basically keep the down time low and operate in a support magic role. RDM have next to no melee ability, though.
Thief / Ninja - a good combination, I think - although NIN/WAR works well as a tank past level 12, and THF/NIN is only really useful starting at 20THF/10NIN. (If your NIN is underleveled at 20, then shame on you.)
Monk / Samurai - No idea. Monks make good damage dealers, I have no idea if SAM support really helps. My guess would be no.
White Mage / Summoner - White Mage is basically essential throughout the game. Summoner sub gives a large bonus to MP, but I'm not sure how well it works.
Warrior / Bard - No idea how well this will work - my guess is "not well." BRD subbed can only have one song active at a given time (since only BRDs can equip instruments). I don't think BRD offers anything useful when subbed.

In regard to jobs and subs:
WAR/? : There are really only three plausible subs for WARs. If you intend to tank, then you want to use MNK. Nothing beats having more HP, a touch more VIT, and the counter ability at 20. If you want to focus more on damage dealing, then you could go with THF, I don't see it often, but when WAR is 30, you can have sneak attack, which will be nice for a little extra hate keeping. And lastly, if you take WAR all the way, you can sub SAM. At 60WAR you will be able to use Meditate (SAM level 30 ability) which raises your TP by 100%. Allowing you to skillchain off yourself with Raging Axe. Another viable sub is NIN, although that isn't recommended until you've developed a solid and steady income. For Ninjitsu spells, you use "Ninja Tools," and the tool for Utsusemi (shadows which absorb damaging attacks (spells, skills, and regular attacks)) is rather expensive. 5k for 99 on Fenrir. That'll last you for about 2-3k XP. So not long at higher levels. But Blink-tanks are brilliant. I've played WHM with a Blink-tank, and its nice not to have to constantly cure. The NIN keeps hate better, you stay alive longer, and everyone is happy.
RDM/? : RDM is a nice class, its my favourite mage class. RDMs are there for debuffing, buffing, and back up nuking and healing. If a PT asks you to be main healer, and they don't have a blink-tank, leave. As for subs, you can go with either BLM or WHM, or SMN if you want, but you miss out on some extra spells for a little bit more MP. Beware of subbing WHM though, because you will be asked to be main healer more and more often. After 41 though, a RDM's role changes. You become the Refresh caster. Refresh is an MP regen spell, and is absolutely critical to higher level parties in order to cut downtime. At that level, you'll cast Refresh on yourself, the mages, and then anyone else that has MP (PLDs and DRKs come to mind immediately). And that'll be your job, keep Refresh on, and do a little something in between, which may be one or two spells, like Dispell.
THF/NIN is a good combo. The NIN adds a little extra DEX and AGI to the THF, and you can dual wield some potent weapons like a Greed Scimitar and a Lust Dagger. The damage a THF does on Sneak attack and Trick attack depend on DEX and AGI respectively, so the NIN sub helps a little there, but the dual wielding is nice because it increases your attack delay, allowing you to have a better chance of using a Weapon Skill in conjunction with Sneak and Trick attacks. And the Utsusemi is nice if your going to be the main puller. Seeing as THF DEF isn't so hot.
MNK/SAM : Good after 60. SAM subs usually aren't that good until you hit 60 with your main, then you can use Meditate. But MNKs are dangerous damage dealers at higher levels. They're so-so from 1-30ish, but after that, they can really start pounding the mobs out. And MNK 2hr is a beautiful thing to behold. Before then you can sub either WAR for a backup 'voke, or THF for some added damage with Sneak attack. I can't really think of any good subs other than those three for MNKs. NIN's abilities are severely wasted on MNKs who use the H2H weapons. And if you aren't, you'd better be levelling staff skill and then switching back to H2H, if not, you will be slapped!
WHM/SMN : I've mentioned what SMN subs are like above, but the avatars are only good for their abilities, after that, dismiss them as they will drain your MP (in FF XI summons are brought out and ordered about, it costs MP to sustain them, so your MP will slowly drain instead of being a one-time cost). But once you hit 50 with whatever job, the SMN's MP Regen job trait is real nice to have. Anything that is MP regen is really nice to have.
WAR/BRD : No. No no no no no. You ought not to sub anything with WAR other than what I've mentioned. And BRD is *not* a good sub for *any* job. Most advanced class jobs are meant to be mains. Only NIN, SAM, RNG (sometimes) and SMN sub well, most of the others loose their appeal when subbed.
And before you even think of it: DO NOT SUB MNK ON RDM. I've seen someone who insists on doing that, He is level 20, I'm level 38, and my friend is level 61. I'm a RNG, and so expense cuts my levelling back severely, and we all started at the NA release. So you do the math.

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled; but how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere? Tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Cookie for you - that's exactly what I meant.
It's great when your PLD can have 6 MP regen - you don't really even need a WHM at that point, unless you're fighting things with nasty debuffs.

Re: [FFXI] General Chat
are there any SN's on the kuta or WE server
Guys guys guys cut me some slack it's my 2nd week on FFXI, I wasn't aware that if I put it:
MNK/SAM it ment that I wanted 60 Monk and 30 Sam etc, I'm just grouping them. From now on, to group classes like "I'd be a sam and mnk" instead of "I'll be a main sam and subbed mnk" i'll connect em with this " - "
Such as:
MNK-SAM.
so, any advice now? Remember guys, I play DAoC and the 'bard' like characters are secondary/support fighters, not mages, so my understanding of each class is different, so please don't expect me to know some 'basic' termonology
