Can anyone help me with my major gripe about FFXI?

Post by asariel » Wed Jun 30, 2004 3:54 am

Here's my problem: The UI is absolutely the worst interface they could have devised. The menu trees seem unneccesary. Keep in mind, however, that I've come from roots in UO and DAOC, where everything was much more streamlined and effective.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with my major gripe, since I know theres a great MMORPG underneath this needlessly complex layer of menu systems that could have been subsituted for a macro system that doesn't suck. If you have any UI guide links, or just care to show me and my red mage which keyboard system is better, I'd be appreciative.

Thanks

trust me on this...

get a usb - ps2 controller converter thingie(redoctane sells them for as low as $7). And use a ps2 controller. It's so much easier to play the game with the dual shock it's just simply amazing. The menues are then just a button, and a few presses of the d-pad away then.

I actually prefer to use the keyboard. Perhaps just because I over adapted... but Control W opens weapon skills... Ctrl J for job skills... a few macros. Ctrl A for attack and I'm good all around.

As a RDM, you want a load of macros. I put all spells that I use on a regular basis in a macro pallete, and I actually make a couple different palletes for various job roles (like if I'm playing healer, nuker, or powerleveling someone). Know a couple keyboard shortcuts, like Ctrl +H for heal, Ctrl + W for Weapon Skills, etc. I've never had issues with the control system-- I use my controller to move, and my keyboard for macros. Works like a charm.

Real LIfe FFXI Clan

Post by Kana Li » Wed Jun 30, 2004 9:52 am

Ok who would be interested in getting a reallife clan together on FFXI. By this I mean get a bunch of us on the same server. If anyone is interested just say so.

I loves me the PS2 controller. Got my four buttons for menu navigating and selecting, got my L2 set for auto-run (critically important for all you newbies, saves a ton of finger stress and took me two months to puzzle out), R2 set for lockon, L1 set for macro palette 1, and R1 set for macro palette 2. Sweet deal, and I arrange my macros in importance, so things I don't use often (ie. /item "Meat Mithkabob" <me>) are set at the end, and stuff I do use often (ie. /ja Sharpshot <me>) are set close to other relevant macros (ie. Shooting, Berserk, Barrage, and that nature. Oh, and the ever beautiful to behold Eagle Eye Shot.)

I'm a RNG/WAR, and GOD I love it!

Woo! Go Mithra RNG!

Oh, and as for SAM subs, I really have no clue. I would advise WAR I suppose, its the best because SAM DEF is rather good, so you can tank in a pinch. But otherwise, I really can't think of any other job you'd want to sub. O.o
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled; but how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere? Tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

You deserve an answer, but I can't figure out a way to say this without being mean, so: ShirtNinjas.

They aren't accepting any new members, and you wouldn't want to join anyway, since most SNs I've ever met of been anti-social ... uh, I can't think of a way to finish this sentence without violating the forum rules.

Anyway, they're all on Phoenix.

There was talk about creating a RLF LS at one point, but only three people total seemed interested so we decided not to bother at the time.
