ehttp://

Post by Gerg » Sat Jan 03, 2004 6:51 pm

anyone else have this? no clue where it's come from, and it won't go away.
i've done :
- gone through my registry to change my URL prefixes
- ran ad-aware, won't pick it up.
- ran spybot, won't pick it up.
- ran the ehttp:// uninstaller tool, problem goes away for about a half an hour.

im sure this is the reason why i can't see any posts for about a minute after i type and why im still stricken by pop ups.

Check Internet options/Temp. Internet Files/Settings/View Objects. remove anything you don't need. Heck, you could clear everything and be just fine. you'll have to re-install flash if needed, and windows update will haveto be re-installed, but thats ok. Also delete temp.internet files and cookies.

RESEARCH:

never seen http://ehttp://?www.whatever.com in particular.
but my mom had http://somespyware.com/?www.whatever.com.

searching for ehttp:// brings up nothing.

You have updated the definitions for both ad-aware and spybot haven't you?

It's not ehttp://, but http://ehttp.cc/?www.url.com that he's probably getting. It's a spyware called Find4U in that case.

Reinstalled, OK. But did you update? Ad-Aware, for example, currently installs with signature files from around May or June, if I recall correctly.

Umm...
VIRUSes block regedit and taskmanager...

I've never heard of spyware doing that. Are you sure you don't have more than meets the eye?

I suggest you first download the very latest version of CWShredder.
Run it, press 'Fix', and allow it to fix all it finds.

Next, go to http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please PM me w/its contents, I'll PM ya back w/what to fix to remove it.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
