I can't decide if I want to thank these idiots for the laughter they've provided or insult them for it.

when i worked at pizza hut a couple of our exceptionally bright employees decided to mix a lime away (containing ammonia) with bleach to clean the dish pit. I was making pizzas about 50 feet away and I was coughing for a few minutes. Our two resident chemists were out for a week. No permanent damage thankfully. It pays to read the big bold warning that says "Do not mix with bleach."

I am a dishwasher at my job (or was till I broke my arm). Thats one of the first things they tell you not to do..... jeeze thats stupid. It's all over the place.

Plus just learning that in chemistry in highschool.

Well when you are that stupid sometimes you deserve it.

The kid with the bottle did not blow off his hand. I'd be surprised if he took any permunent damage.

Its just exploding compressed air.

Though I love the kids with the melon.

Assumption is the mother of all fuckers. He probably did blow his hand off, or at least part of it. Think of it this way: SCUBA divers and fire fighters know that their air tanks must be hydrostatically tested every 5 years or so (depending on the type of tank) to make sure that the compressed air won't burst them. Compressed air pack quite a whallop and can kill people. Not to mention that most fatalities caused by bombs are not caused by fire or shrapnel, but rather by the overpressure caused by the explosion, which is in essence compressed air.

But, I hope that you were being sarcastic with that comment, Mav. Compressed air is not something to play with, especially when in an enclosed container that doesn't have the strength to hold that in. Many people are seriously wounded or killed each year from air bombs made out of plastic bottles when teenagers decide that it would be cool to play with things like that.

But still, it's fuckin' hilarious...damn kids got what they deserved!

Those are also upwards of several thousand PSI tanks, and most equipment runs at at least 250 PSI.

That was a plastic bottle. Probobly blew about 50 PSI. Not dangerous.

However, I've no doubt he did cut up his hand, and may have gotten something in his eye. The only way this could have hurt him seriously is that. In his eye, or if a piece cut his throat or something.

There would be ways to make this more dangerous with just that plastic bottle, but that is not one of them.

Yeah Sirian, I remember that time I blew my fucking hand off because I popped a baloon. How much air do you think was in that PLASTIC soda bottle before they poured crap into it? Its like over inflating a baloon, and causing it to pop. Not a huge metal thing with air shoved in there as tightly as it will go. It also has a good deal to do with the build up of the bursting point... explosive material tends to be quicker, and thus more dangerous than over compressed air. And considering the rupture would take the path of least resistance, IE away from his hand... and given my knowledge of breaking plastic, theres a good chance the plastic would have actually shielded his hand. Between my personal experience of breaking shit, my father's experience of blowing shit up as a kid, and my girlfriend's knowledge of chemistry shit... I feel pretty well based on my assumption.

Oh, and funny story going back to my father blowing shit up as a kid. He had a friend once, who was stuffing match heads into a metal CO2 cartridge. One of the match heads ignited while being pushed into the cartridge, and set the thing off. The kid died from shrapnel going through his neck.

I can tell you the kid risking splashing his clothes in flameable material was in far greater danger.

I'm reminded what the resident actual scientist upon this show Wildboyz, and I think its apt to this thread:

"I don't think Chris and Steve-O are idiots. I think they're scientists...they just aren't all that smart."

I don't know which is scaryier, the fact I watch MTV, or the fact I've actually learned some things by watching that show on MTV. Bygones, I still give the flaming melon folks props for being original. And to the young lad from the first link for helping the protestic hand industry strive in this weak economic world.

My friend blew a hole in his backyard when he was messing around with gasoline. If that wasn't bad enough, in another instance the nozzle of the gas can was actually ON FIRE. He put it out, it caught fire again, and he put it out again. Strangely enough, he's not a moron when it comes to anything else other than pyrotechnics.

Calcium Hypochlorite Pressure Bomb, I believe, is the term for what the kids were making, and it could, probably blow a hand off.
