The G Gundam dub. Why? Why do you make me cry so?

The G Gundam dub. Why? Why do you make me cry so?

Post by Gouf_Custom » Mon Jan 12, 2004 8:16 am

For starters, I'd like to give my first impression upon hearing the dub.

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

*curls into a fetal position, shudders a few times, and sinks into sobbing*

Anyway. Now the actual complaints. Voice actors. Alright, this is an anime with a very strong focus on different nationalities and ethnicities. Give the frickin' Russian a Russian accent, give the Frenchie a Frenchie accent, etc. I mean, come on. Also, put some emotion in it. I've put more emotion into my voice when I ran out of ramen than Domon did when Kyoji dies. Too halting. The lines should be spoken smoothly and naturaly. Complaint two. Changing proper nouns. God Gundam becomes Burning Gundam. Devil Gundam becomes Dark Gundam. I can hypothetically understand those. I can see why they wouldn't want too much religious things in it, because some stupid people would protest. I still think they could have thought of something more contrasting than Dark and Burning. And, I mean, "Erupting Burning Finger?" That just sounds plain stupid. It's supposed to be "Bakunetsu God-o Fingaaa!!" or translated, something along the lines of "Exploding God Finger!" Now, those are things I can see where they come from, but disagree on. However... the GF13-021NG Gundam Spiegel, Neo Germany's Gundam Fighter. It's name is Spiegel, the German word for mirror. Makes a good deal of sense. But apparently, they think Americans are too stupid to realize a German mech might have a German name, and change it to Shadow Gundam. THAT'S MY FAVORITE MECH YOU JUST MESSED WITH! BASTARDS! Anyway, worse example. GF13-037NCA Lumber Gundam, Neo Canada's Gundam. It's shaped like a lumberjack (and it's okay!). It uses axes. It's pilot chops wood in his free time. They call it the Grizzly Gundam. WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE SHIRT NINJA ARE THEY THINKING?!?! Oy... one last thing... they changed Chibodee's nicknames for people. He addresses Domon with, "Hey, Japanese!" You can understand him saying that in the Japanese version. But no, stating someone's nationality might be offensive. Let's change it to "Hey, Neo-Japan!" Gyah.

In closing, yes, I realize this is much after the release of the dub. I just wanted to rant on it.

And on a side note, we've found a Wapanese poster.

Watch the subs then.

Barring that, don't watch G-Gundam at all, just watch DBZ like the rest of the people who aren't total posers and like to watch large men grunt, yell and shoot energy at each other (Yeah... energy *snicker*)

And I've come to the conclusion that Duke is an angry, angry person, probably shunned by his family when he was young, and channels it to other people.

Oh, and Duke? I do watch the subs. I was, you know, ranting. Funny thing to do on the rant section, huh?

Yes, and your ranting about something on the level of DBZ. Of course it's going to suck. What were you expecting, a deep compelling plot about a gigantic fighting tournament filled with morningstars with ENERGY chains and guys decapitating robots with scarves?

You miss the point, Soth. I complain not on the anime in general. I, for one, like G Gundam. I really do. But the dub, well... yeah, I think you got the point.

And Duke, if you'd like to, go right ahead.

Ever heard the saying, "You can't shine a turd" Gouf? The dub is just an extension of already existant craptacularness.

I watch DBZ for the aforementioned reasons, and I'm not ashamed of it! I even have a background that has SSJ3 Goku in it!

Still, even if it's crap, those dubbing and redistributing it should note anything the original portrayers wanted to portray, and try to portray that as well. Perhaps the accurate repportrayal would add to the positive portrayal of the overall series. And yes, now I'm just trying to find more ways I can add the words portray and portrayal to my post :P

I LIKE TO WHINE ABOUT DUBS AND THEN PROCEED TO WATCH CARTOON NETWORK, REFUSING TO BUY THE GODFORSAKEN DVD TO WATCH THE SUBTITLED VERSION.

^^^ That was you.

Either don't watch the dub, or live with it. Dubs suck. Period. Don't bitch about them.

Actually, Mo0, I find the statement of "all dubs suck" to be false. There are quite a lot that are mediocre, and the occasional dub that is good. And for the record, I saved money and got bootleg subs from eBay. Yay bootleg!

Hey Jude

Don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
