Voting
I was watching a tv show about how a lot of the younger age groups don't vote and that got me wondering just how much of the majority (if at all) here vote?
I personally am excited. I'm turning 18 as of Monday and I look forward to voting. I believe it's an important part of participating and trying to bring about change. The thing that gets me the most is how can you complain about the government if you don't vote? When you haven't even tried to make a change or voice an opinion?
However I know there are different reasons to/or not to vote. I'm interested in hearing them. So what do you think?
Oh, and this isn't limited to those in the United States. If you live outside the states, do you participate actively in your government? Why or why not?

I must call BS on the idea that those who don't vote can't complain... because we all know that there's always a candidate worth supporting, right? Wait, no, there isn't. Like if there was an open election between Hussein, Hitler, and Stalin, I wouldn't vote for any of 'em ... but why couldn't I complain?

I've never voted officially, but when it comes to voting at school or somewhere, I vote "no" if I don't like the candidates. Or even if I do like the candidates, really. That way I can say I voted AND I don't have to support anyone.
Yeah, that's pretty lame, but I hate politics.

well, they died for the idea that you could choose to vote if you wanted to. i personally don't think it's disrespect if you don't, In fact i'd even say it's a mockery of their fight to vote out of guiltOthers have died so I could vote. Why should I disrespect them by not embracing that right?
agreed, of course there is the difference between that situation and just plain apathetic voters. unfortunately it's hard to tell the differenceI must call BS on the idea that those who don't vote can't complain... because we all know that there's always a candidate worth supporting, right? I would vote in that. I would vote for Hussein. I don't think he was as bad as Hitler or Stalin, was he?

Why is that everyone thinks that the only thing on a ballot are candidates for office? Am I the only one that feels it important to go to the polls to let my opinion known on things like funding for roads, bond issues, proposed sales taxes, etc. There are so many things on the ballot, it just foolishness not to vote. As far as I'm concerned, anyone that doesn't vote because of a candidate doesn't have the right to complain. If you have a problem with my opinion, tough shit, I don't care. Your decision not to vote only gives me more power. How does it give me more power? Simple, elections are decided by the people that vote. If only 10 people show up, they decided for everyone. I know this to be true because in the election last year only 127 of more than 4500 registered voters showed up to vote in my polling area.
