In the Catholic faith (and maybe others...), when you receive the Sacrament of Confirmation you choose a second middle name (your confirmation name) - mirroring the fact that you receive your first middle name when you receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
For my confirmation name I "re-chose" my Baptismal name; I'm Ronald Anthony Anthony Pasko.

According to http://www.behindthename.com it just means 'helper' or 'defender', mankind doesn't show up in the meaning there.

Yeah, what he said. I'm not exactly the most Catholic person anymore, so usually I just don't include it in my name.
